Activities
Initial NIA activities include:
- Risk-based classification of existing and new nanotechnologies
An industry-based perspective will be created to establish collective views on existing nomenclature, threats and opportunities associated with classification systems; it will be explored how existing hazard and risk assessment procedures are applicable to nanotechnologies.* - A proposal for a hazard assessment protocols is being developed, which will enhance current procedures in identifying hazards and mitigation strategies.*
* Some recommendations will be established as industry-supportable recommendations.
- Technology foresight
The Nanotechnology Industries Association will examine the existing UK opinion of the potential for nanotechnologies and provide a 2020 view of the impact of this exciting field of emerging technologies. A diverse jigsaw of products are currently deriving distinctive benefit from their nano structure/formulation; the NIA will provide a consumer-orientated view of this product map and its future trends.
